Haley Bogdon - Aeroflot plane crash: Russia jet 'struck by lightning'
This article is about the Russian jet that was forced to make an emergency landing in Moscow after it was struck by lightning. Some of the passengers were able to escape after the jet burst into flames at the airport on Sunday. 41 of the 78 people that were on board died in this accident. The cause of the crash is said to be a lightning strike, although modern airplanes are supposed to be able to withstand lightning strikes. The pilot of the plain told the Russian media that the lightning had interrupted the communication with the air traffic controllers and forced him to go into a manual mode. One passenger who survived said that the flight was struck just after taking off and said that the landing was so rough, he almost passed out. It seems that there have been many more plane crashes in the past several months and all seem to be things that should be preventable. This makes me nervous to fly in a plane and it is surprising to see this many incidents with the technological advances. I hope that more safety measures and precautions are taken so that lives can be saved in the future. If lightning is a true risk, than I don't feel that planes should be allowed to take off in storms where there is lightning.
