Two days before Thanksgiving, Paul Caneiro, a New Jersey businessman, left his home in the middle of the night and drove to his brother Keith Caneiro's mansion, where he was said to have confronted his brother with a gun, shot him, and then broke into the mansion where he stabbed and murdered Keith's wife, and two children aged 8 and 11. He then started a fire to cover up his tracks and returned home, where he set his own home on fire, while his wife and kids were still inside (they, however evacuated and were unarmed). Investigators say the killings occurred because of financial rivalries, as the two brothers had been long term business partners, and Keith had had considerably more wealth than Paul. Paul allegedly burnt his own home down as a way to shift suspicion away from him to make it seem as if the entire family was a target, not just Keith and his family. If convicted, Paul could face life in prison.
Honestly I can't think of anything to say other than people are crazy, and no matter how hard we try, and how much effort we put into law enforcement and protection of citizens, events like this can't always be prevented. I am extremely shocked by this story. Literally some normal, average, happy middle class man with a wife and two kids suddenly snaps and kills his family and burns two homes down including his own. I know this story doesn't have anything to do with history or politics or anything, and it really isn't the type of story I should be analyzing on here but it just shows how horrendous people can act towards each other for no apparent reason. I have zero clue as to why this man, who had been lifelong friends with his brother, suddenly snapped and committed horrendous crimes against his family for no apparent reason other than disputes over money concerning a family business. This is just another example of millions throughout history that sometimes people are just plain evil. I think its important that we all recognize that the world isn't perfect and sometimes unexpected terrible things are just going to happen.

DeleteThis was a bit to far. It’s crazy to think that this man just snapped and killed his brother and family and even put his very own family at risk. - Lesly Marquez
ReplyDeletePeople have to be really messed up to do something like this. It's important to be grateful for what you have and nothing is bad enough to commit arson and murder.
