This article discusses the protests that are currently happening in France. The protests started as a protest against a fuel tax, but now have developed into a more general discontent. The article mentions that some of the protesters were going to meet with the government but recived threats from other protesters. 3 people have died in these protests.
This comes in a time where protests occur very frequently and this does not help their case. This was written as an update for those who want more information about these protests to inform them on this new development. I couldn’t find who wrote it, but BBC published it and I didn’t see any biased statements. This is important because it makes us ask questions about how prople should and should not protest.
This relates to the issue earlier with the Nike campaign with Kaepernick. A lot of people were contemplating whether or not people should be protesting, not necessarily for the same reasons, but it brings up the same sort of questions.

I have a cousin who lives in Paris and she most days it takes over 1 hour for her to get to work (her work is about 2 miles away). It takes that long because of the constant bus protests and subway protests. Although I think the protests are for a good reason, people have vandalized sacred land marks in Paris, and many of the peaceful protests turned into horrible riots that caused a lot of harm.
ReplyDeleteThe "gilets-jaunes" have very valid reasons for protesting, but considering that it's not like they're protesting some humanitarian crisis (they're protesting taxes, not for example, children being detained by ICE)& people have actually died due to their protesting, I think they need to take it down a notch or two.
ReplyDeleteWhy haven't I heard about this?

I think when a person or crowd protest it should be peaceful because when it is violent people die because of a difference of opinion
