Miadora Ibanez -'No More Hope': Slain Afghan Photographer Covered His Country's Turmoil For 2 Decades

Summary-
41 year old Shah Marai along with at least 9 Afghan journalists and more than two dozen others lost their lives in the coordinated suicide bombings by ISIS. In an essay in 2016, Marai stated "They (referring to the Taliban) hated journalists." The Taliban forbade photography of any being, making his work very risky. However, he still managed to chronicle his country's turmoil.

Analysis-

This article was written by Hannah Bloch, an international digital editor and a former TIME Pakistan and Afghanistan correspondent and Emily Bogle who is a photo editor and art director for NPR. Marai's work can be connected to Muckrakers for exposing the grim scenes and corruption of his daily life.
