A rare species of penguin, yellow eyed penguins or hoiho, that inhabit a small island off the coast of New Zealand are slowly disappearing. This time around it's not because of global warming or predation, surprise surprise, it's humans. The waters that the penguins rely on for food are being fished using gillnets, which are nets that are virtually invisible underwater. The nets promptly catch and drown the small birds, this threat has deminished their populations by almost 50% in the last year  alone. Head wreckless fishing methods endanger many aquati animals and need to be addressed.
This topic is especially relavent to history because one if not more annals go extinct every day, with human activity taking s huge part in the destruction, wether it's through our effect on the environment  or direct methods such as poaching.
Personally, this story is devastating. The only fault that the penguins are guilty of is living, and they sate being killed.
