Summary: Middle school students in Gurnee, Illinois were given a very controversial homework assignment; they were asked to explain Europe's appeasement to Hitler through comics. An image of the homework is here:a close up of text on a white background: Some parents were upset after middle school students received an Adolph Hitler-themed homework assignment.
As you can see, the homework depicts a my little pony style character dressed as Hitler. One little boy created his comic using SpongeBob as his character.

Position: This assignment was assigned with good intentions, but clearly the teacher wasn't thinking about the possible reaction from parents. This could be seen as offensive and possibly traumatizing to the kids who enjoy shows like this.

  1. This is a very problematic assignment and I really don’t understand how someone could have looked at this and throught it would be totally ok to give to middle schoolers.
