The US department of State has created a new system for alerting Americans about potential security risks abroad. Instead of issuing short-term travel alerts on concerns like epidemic breakouts or long term country issues, the State Department is now implementing a system for every country in the world. This new process sorts countries into a four-level classification system. Countries dubbed level one are the safest for travel. Level two means "exercise increased caution" and level three means "consider travel." A level four means "do not travel" as there could be life-threatening risks. This new system will be in effect in January.
This article also stated that this new system was to inform and advise US citizens, which I hope remains true when it is put into action. I appreciate the State Department taking action to inform us of possible risks when traveling abroad. However I hope this new system does not result in a restrictive one that judges countries based off bias and only allows its citizens specific travels.
