On November 15th, Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" painting sold for $450,000,000, making it the most expensive piece of art to be sold in history. The anonymous buyer of this painting was recently revealed, Prince Abu Dhabi of Saudi Arabia. This painting was so important because it was known as "lost" until 1958 when it was sold in an auction for $59 saying that it was a replica rather than the original. This painting shows how art it a huge part of culture and how important it is to society today.

This is so crazy and so cool! I think it's especially cool that this piece of art has a particuarly interesting background (just like a majority of art).
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting the way art is stolen and discovered throughout history. It's a wonder with all the security these days, that art can still be stolen.
ReplyDeleteThis is for sure super interesting, especially for us art kids at booker T. I think historic art can be inspiration for modern art, so the discovery of this piece could be a stylistic inspiration for art kids all over.
