California fires rage into second week as massive blazes are ‘expected to spread’

In Ventura, California, ranging wildfires continue to burn. These fires have destroyed over 800 buildings, and authorities warn that "the blazes could still spread and pose new dangers." Most parts of Los Angeles and Ventura are under "red flag warnings." The wind fueling the rapid spread of the fires are expected to continue to strengthen, putting more properties and lives at risk.
For example an expecting mother, Christie Evans, had traveled to find a new home in hopes of avoiding the danger. She had been staying with her husband and infant son, when the came across a stunning view of her neighborhood on the news. As the camera panned her street the entire family was stunned and as Christie stated "there was my driveway- [but] there was no house."

This article is about the negative affects of a rapidly spreading situation. This relates to apush, because just as the fire was spreading in the south, so was slavery. The destruction of people's lives and homes, caused by the fire, represents the severity of slavery in most parts of the south.

  1. What is causing the fires to spread so rapidly? This is so sad, and I hope they are able to get the fires under control.
