Trump is sending NASA Back to the Moon
It has been about 45 years ago this week that the last 2 humans have ever walking the moon and since then, no one has gone back. One of the main reasons is because NASA doesn't even have its own space vehicles, having retired from space shuttles since 2011. For now, the ultimate goal is Mars. Actually getting the funding for the president's ambitious space goals are as well of a problem for NASA. NASA has recently been working on plans for something called the Deep Space Gateway, an outpost in orbit around the moon. Officials in the Trump administration had proposed to NASA to consider putting humans on that mission which gotten ultimately declined after a review.
I feel like Trump's ambitions are maybe a little too high. I mean of course it would be cool to go back to the moon, but generally sending humans on such mission takes a lot of planning especially when you consider that fact that sending people to the moon isn't NASA's top priority at the moment. To be honest I would much rather be interested in seeing us to Mars instead(which is what their top goal was in the first place) and I'm glad to see them taking a cautious step in having opposed the consideration of putting humans, first thing, in orbit around the moon.
