Seanelle Higgins: Dad Puts Six Month Old Baby in Refrigerator

Summary: 33 year-old Michael Thedford was  recently charged with manslaughter after he left his six month old baby in a sweltering car. Thedford reportedly remembered while he was at home napping, and tried to revive his unresponsive baby by putting her in the refrigerator. Thedford is an unemployed former teacher who had dropped his kids off, 3 and 5 years of age, at daycare and forgot about his youngest daughter. He then put her in the fridge for an undetermined amount of time before calling his wife and 911 when he failed to perform successful CPR. Authorities arrived to his home to find him gone and the girl dead in the kitchen. The weather reports for that day state that it was in the low nineties, but felt like upper nineties. Thedford was released on a $20,000 bond not too long after his conviction.

Analysis:  I think that this is a very sad story and I hope this man is brought to justice. Although he probably panicked, a responsible adult would have immediately contacted authorities in order to help the child. This man was  worrying about his own reputation and how it would look for him instead of how to help his daughter. Thousands of children are "forgotten" in vehicles like handbags instead of living beings and often die because of the consequences . Bringing this man to justice will set the tone that doing this to children will never be okay, especially if you tried to revive the child yourself instead of getting professional medical help.
