Emily Anderson- brain development

Many people told the Wall family that their baby would not survive long after birth. He developed a rare defect of the spine that affects the lower extremities and could affect the brain. From this defect, fluid filled his brain, leaving him with only 2% of it. The parents prepared for the worst, but when they brought him home after he was born, he continued to grow and thrive. His brain grew to 80% of a normal sized brain. He continues to grow today and can speak, count, and go to school.
This story is so incredible because it shows the complexity of the body and brain. Back in the day, doctors wouldn't have been able to catch defects like this and be able to treat them. With all of the advancements in technology in the U.S., nowadays kids can survive many more things than they could've been able to a century ago. This story shows optimism for the country as a whole because more people are surviving hardships.

  1. Technology is very helpful in saving lives. I think that healthcare technology has revolutionized our country's access to lifesaving attention and has created great strides in the health of our people.
