Lauren Brady December 4, 2016 P4 Smog in China Leaves Thousands Stranded at Chengdu Airport
20,000 people are left stranded after the worst smog and fog conditions hit Chengdu, China in years. Flights to and from Chengdu Airport have been canceled, delayed, or diverted to other airports. The runway 10 hours and has caused the greatest number of disrupted travelers in years. The air pollution in Chengdu is 280, which is considered "very unhealthy".
It is concerning that China's air quality is so bad. This is not an isolated incident and many other places in China have even worse air quality. Nobody should have to breath disgusting air. Not only is the air quality a problem for the Chinese's health, but the visibility is so low that it is making getting around difficult. In 1948, a town in Pennsylvania, named Donora, experienced lethal pollution. The steel and zinc processing has led to the air pollution and smog. In other parts of the US, similar things were happening because of all of the industrial towns. Nowadays, the US government has regulations on air quality standards, and the issue is less severe. China needs to evaluate air conditions so that they can protect their people.
