Summary: Bana Alabed, a 7 year old girl, tweets about her life in Aleppo. Her tweets include daunting experiences of her home of Aleppo being bombed. Monday she posted a tweet telling her followers that she and her family had no place to hide anymore and ended it with a goodbye. Bana's mother created the twitter account in September to help raise awareness to the condition of Aleppo. Ever since the Syrian army made it a plan to recapture Aleppo, it has been in turmoil. Bombings are brutal and innocents, including women and children, die everyday. Bana's tweets are often eye opening and begging for help. Her last tweet was, "Under heavy bombardments now. In between death and life now, please keep praying for us."
Analysis: I believe that this is a very eye opening story. People often ignore the conditions in areas like Aleppo where innocent civilians (including innocent babies and children) are killed in bombings and other attacks. These people are often caught between the conflict that is caused by their country and they have no where else to go. This is why I despise xenophobia. I would rather an immigrant "take my job" than watch another innocent child die that cannot control where it was born. I applaud this brave girl for tweeting about her experiences and educating others on what is happening around her. I truly hope she is okay.
I think this story is a perfect example of the diffusion of ideas and stories. We have technology to thank for this. Without it our opinions and ideas about immigrants may be different.
