Summary: Last Friday, a freshman at El Camino Real Charter High School was walking out of a Wendy's near his school when a random teenager he had never met came up behind him and punched him in the face. The attack was videotaped by what seems to be a young girl, and then posted onto her Snapchat. The punch fractured the boy's skull, caused severe swelling and bleeding to his brain, and ruptured his ear drum. The kid had to be airlifted to the nearest Children's Hospital, where he has been recovering well. The attacker has been located and arrested.
Analysis/Synthesis: This was really weird to read about. I could't understand how someone could go up to a complete stranger and injure them that badly. First of all, that must've been one hell of a punch. Second, why did he even do it?? For fun?? This can be connected to early fall of this year when another 14-year old boy got off of his bus stop in Columbus Ohio, and was attacked by a random, knife wielding psychopath, who was wearing all black and a clown mask.

Being familiar with social media, I'm guessing that someone was trying to look cool by videotaping an event that would become popular quickly. Social media is a positive thing when used appropriately, but gets out of hand when people are preforming dangerous acts in order to get more views or likes.
ReplyDeleteThey should not have posted something like that in first place, though they were probably trying to likes and look cool for their "friends". Hopefully they'll recover in good shape.
