Last Wednesday, at H.W. Good Elementary, a stranger walked in and paid the school for all of those who had overdue lunch balances. He ended up paying over 40 bills! Especially around this time of year, these accounts tend to go into the negative, so when this kind "Secret Santa" came in a signed a check of $864, it helped many struggling families this holiday season. Nearly half of the kids at this elementary school are experiencing financial difficulty, especially around this time of year. Usually, parents will fill their child's lunch account monthly, however this is a challenging time to keep up these funds. The school is sending out letters to surprise the parents that this has affected, but they are not going to enclose who has done this kind gesture. Janet Sardon, superintendent of the Yough School District, says about this act of kindness, "Thank you so much for making a difference in the lives of our students".
ANALYSIS:
Before reading this article, I had been aware of the financial difficulties that can arise around this time of year. I think it is so great to see someone that has gone out of their way to help someone in need. What's even more special, is the fact that he didn't want to take credit for it... he remained anonymous! This article is trying to demonstrate the generosity of the human spirit. This is especially important around this time of year, given what's happening around the world. There's so much hate and ugliness, we all could be a little more like this generous man! I'm interested to see how the parents will react to discovering they won't have to pay that debt, and can put that money towards more important matters, or to help celebrate Christmas with their family.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw your headline, I only read "A stranger walks into a school." I was ready to read about another shooting or kidnapping, but this is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a good samaritan. This is is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis is so great!! Whenever I see something on here relating to a school, I think its going to be more bad news, but this brightened my day! It is good to know that there are still kind people out there doing random acts of kindness without a need to be recognized for it.
