Gracie Darlington: Justin Ross Harris Sentenced to Life for Son's Hot Car Death

After five weeks of trial, 36 year old Justin Ross Harris was found guilty of deliberately leaving his 22 month old son in a hot car to die, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The child sat in the car for seven hours with the outside temperatures near 90F. Although claiming the act was an accident, while his son was in the car, Harris was sitting in his office sexting several women, including a teenage girl. Harris was discovered to have researched the duration and temperature at which dying in a hot car requires, as well as websites which glorified living child-free. He was convicted on eight counts, including malice murder, child cruelty, and sex crimes. Cobb County Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark added an extra 32 years to his sentence, the maximum penalty allowed.
This article was written to inform the reader of the final outcome of this ongoing court case. The author provided the arguments of both the defendant and the prosecutor, remaining objective. Children are left in cars far too often and this article will hopefully serve to prevent people from being forgetful and making that fatal mistake. This can synthesize back to the Civil War, when boys as young as 11 were killed during battle as drummer boys.

  1. Kiri Luckey: This is so sad and very cruel. Why would you want to kill your own son, that is sickening. I am glad he is being given consequences for his cruel actions.
