Report finds skyrocketing rate of babies going through opiate withdrawal by Macey Kanaman 8th Period

    Summary: Many babies born today are already addicted to heroin. These babies suffer from diarrhea and violent shakes. The outbreak of heroin overdoses in West Virginia has caused the recent born babies to suffer from withdrawals. Women are addicted to the opiate and become pregnant which then leads to the baby also becoming addicted. Some serious side effects result in seizures and delays in growth. To help prevent these babies from suffering from birth we need to start at the source and provide health to the women who suffer with addiction.


     Analysis: I agree with this article in that to prevent more babies from suffering with withdrawals we need to fix the problem from the source. To provide women and men with help for their addiction. The scariest thing is that the rate of addicted babies has increased greatly. That means more and more people are suffering with addiction. Instead of sending people to jail for having drugs on them I think they should be sent to rehab where they can solve their problems. I am synthesizing this to the Antebellum Age when people began to focus on cleaning up many prisons and making them more livable. Also, when they began to treat people who suffer with mental illnesses more humanely. I believe just like in the Antebellum Age people are realizing the faults in our prisons, who is being sent into them and why. Now, we need to provide people with the correct help they need, not just what seems to be the easiest.
