Elijah Macias- "‘We can’t allow this’: Man accused of threatening to slit throat of Muslim NYPD officer"

Summary: Last Saturday evening, a Muslim women NYPD police officer, Aml Esokary, was threatened by a man who allegedly told her that she was ISIS and that he was going to slit her throat. This man, Christopher Nelson, has since been taken into custody and charged with aggravated harassment and menacing as a hate crime. On Monday, at the  NY News Conference on crime statistics, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he "was sick to his stomach" when addressing the hate spewed at his officer. He was very fed up with the incident saying that " Its unacceptable in this city, its unacceptable in this nation." There has been a significant increase in Islamophobic actions since the election of Trump. Another incident like this happened at The University of Michigan where a man told a muslim student to take off her hijab or he was going to set her on fire, she was forced to comply.

Analysis: It's quite sickening; how can such hateful people exist? I cannot imagine what goes on in their heads; thoughts of hate and violence. Why must they be this way? Why can't Americans be accepting and loving towards each other. I completely agree with Mayor Bill De Blasio's statement that this hate is  " ..unacceptable in this city, its unacceptable in this nation." We as Americans must fill with love and change- we must stop this wave of hate towards a group of people. This can be compared to the Nativists and their anti immigration ideals- they were not welcoming to the incoming Dutch and Irish.
One day, we will overcome this hate. We all must stand together as Americans and fight this evil.
