Summary: After visit with Santa, a 9 year old kid named Anthony was in tears. His mom told CNN that Santa had told her child to "lay off the hamburgers and fries". This affected Anthony deeply and he said that he was crying til he fell asleep that night. The city manager has taken care of the issue since then. Anthony's mother wants this Santa fired for his unacceptable behavior. This Santa will no longer be working in their town Forest City, North Carolina.
Analysis/Synthesis: It's very disrespectful what this worker said to a child and I'm glad he was reprimanded for it. This story is so surprising it reminds me of an episode of What Would You Do? a show based around setting up social situations and seeing how the public react and if anyone interferes with the problem at hand. Some people seem to think that they're always right in their ways of thinking and don't think of the effects it has on others. This man is portraying a Christmas character who is always portrayed as a fat man, for him to give weight loss tips to a child is both shameful and ironic.

I don't understand why people feel like they have the right to impose their own beliefs or standards on people they don't even know. It's a child! That man's purpose in the child's life was to bring a moment of happiness but instead he did the opposite.
ReplyDeleteThat is really wrong. Santa is supposed to be this magical, father-like presence in a child's life. For someone to ruin that for a boy by calling him fat(and I agree with you about how ironic that it) is terrible.
ReplyDeleteThat's a terrible thing for anyone to say to another person, and the fact that it was a young child makes it even worse. I feel really bad for this boy and mad at this santa.
