Women's equality-Keeleigh Everett 4th period
http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/13/entertainment/jennifer-lawrence-pay-sony-feat/?iid=ob_homepage_deskrecommended_pool&iref=obnetwork
Summary: Recently Jennifer Lawrence decided that it was time to stand up for women's rights and with those rights comes with the fact that women are just as talented as men and still not being paid equally and especially in the movie business.
Analysis: Even though women have "equally rights" as the 19th amendment, they still aren't equal. Women have been fighting for equally payment in all industries, women work just as hard as any male and yet they still aren't equal. With having a huge " endorser" like Jennifer Lawrence it could be a huge step toward having actual equal rights since the 19th amendment. The movement toward equality in payment may have many other celebrities and people to make this movement even bigger and allowing a movement like the woman's right movement with Susan B. Antony

ReplyDeleteI am excited about the prospects of womens rights growing, and i wish that having Jennifer Lawrence speak out would change the way things are, but the truth is that is not so. I am looking towards the future, because we do deserve every right any man has.
I still don't understand how companies like Sony Pictures in Hollywood, a very liberal part of the U.S., still doesn't pay their actresses as much as their actors. It's terrible sexism that shouldn't be tolerated.

The growing awareness of the wage gap between men and women has the potential to take off, and make a difference in women's rights for good. Heightened anger at this system must be channeled to effectively transform this system into work environments that reap equal pay for all. I agree that it is unfair and that women are just as capable as men; all the more reason for big change hopefully in the near future.

It is great that someone as influential as Jennifer Lawrence has decided to speak up about this issues that has been going on for way too long. Although, I'm not sure why women should even have to demand equal pay in the first place because it's paying women less is all about being biased which automatically breaks rules in the first place, so I'm happy that she'll make a positive impact on this. ReplyDeleteI think it's great that women are making strides with equality, but as a feminist, you should not look up to people such as Susan B. Anthony. She was very racist, wanting white women exclusively to be able to vote.

ReplyDeleteIt is terrible that America still has issues with equality, but Im glad people are stepping up and pushing to improve this issue. Eventually, in the future women will be able to make as much money as men.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what I support by saying this but why does it seem that the only way to resolve this issue is by public endorsement? All of the sudden a reoccurring debate in society will vanish because a celebrity says it's unjustified? Will all of our decisions only be considered if an elite member of society declares it should be? I don't think this will happen overnight, my arguement being based on that it still isn't solved today. - Cassidy Jones
ReplyDeleteI think it is great how far women's rights have come since when we first got the right to vote, however I also think it is kind of crazy that we still have to fight for them. Jennifer Lawrence was not the first to come up with the idea of women's rights. So many women have fought for it in the past, such as Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. I wish that we didn't have to fight at all anymore and that our rights ARE equal.
