Summary: Volkswagen was recently
involved in a scandal uncovering that it purposefully lied to consumers for
over a decade about the emissions from their “clean-diesel” cars. Volkswagen
revealed that almost 11 million vehicles worldwide were deliberately programmed
to falsify their emissions output. Volkswagen is the world’s largest automaker
and the world’s fifteenth largest company, so the misconduct between producer
and consumer is widespread. These cars were marketed as the perfect combination
of high performance and environmental responsibility and consumers were deceived,
now all will seek compensation for their misplaced decision to buy a Volkswagen.
Most auto scandals usually don’t have a large effect on the company responsible;
however, Volkswagen will be heavily punished for this misconduct. The company
will have to make a commitment to reduce emissions, replace all cars sold with
what was originally promised, and work towards an environmental solution for
the damage caused. They also have lost trust among many of their consumers and
will most definitely suffer huge losses in sales.
Synopsis: Volkswagen is getting what
it deserves for lying to its customers. Everything seemed to work out well, but
there should be a better solution put in place for other companies that don’t
get the punishment they deserve; especially, when consumers so often get the
short end of the stick when dealing with these huge corporations.

This is ridiculous! I can't believe that such a successful company would decide to lie to its customers for over a decade! This is definitely going to hurt them now as many people are going to take a lot of time to rebuild their trust, if they do at all. -Nicole Chatham 6th period
