Summary
An arrowhead found on Mayan land revealed to scientists that the Mayan people probably participated in "bloodletting" ceremonies as a gift to their gods. When one bloodlets, they spill their blood, lethally or not, in order to provide sustenance to their god(s), these ceremonies, although a bit strange to us now, give us more insight into the beliefs of the Mayan peoples religious ceremonies. The Mayans believed in a life force in people, and when those people spilled their own blood for the gods, they were feeding the gods with some of their life force. This was just one of the groundbreaking discoveries uncovered when Meissner and Rice released their journal study publicly, and are one of many more to come.
Analysis
Even though these people lived for generations upon generations in a huge empire, we are still learning huge things about them. These ancient civilizations are the backbone of this world, and we, in my opinion, must respect these cultures at least for that.
Matthew Homsher 9th- I wonder if you could find a connection between the Mayan belief in life force and other religions like Animism or Shintoism? Maybe we could gain some insight into their culture through comparison.
