Alexis Farrell, 5th Period: First Lady Aims to Get More Students to Continue Education

The article states that Michelle Obama recently created a new social media website called BetterMakeRoom.org. It's a place where teenagers are able to discuss information and personal experiences about continuing education after high school. The website has over 20 media/business groups promoting it. Students from the age of 14 to 18 can join the website to receive information about signing up for the ACT and SAT as well as ways to sign up for college and apply for financial aid. Additionally, all students around the world can see their fellow student's goals/aspirations after college. This is apart of Michelle's Reach Higher initiative and will hopefully bloom in the future.

In a passionate way, the first lady took initiative and created a wonderful tool that will help more students have the motivation to continue on to college. Her passion reminds me of how Dorothea Dix fought for her beliefs. Despite her physically unstable state, she made sure that the condition of jails, poorhouses, and insane asylums were improved. She wanted the "insane", or as she preferred, mentally ill, to be treated like any other individual who is not affected by mental illness. She wouldn't stop until she got the states to agree with her idea. What a determined young woman! She was definitely a go-getter in those days.

This was such a great idea of Michelle! It's interesting to see how much of a heart she has for the youth of today. I constantly see her doing different volunteer opportunities. This is a great idea to show the kids that an education really pays off through personal anecdotes.
