In some of the most puzzling news in modern times, the Malaysia Airlines plane that went missing march 8 has yet to be found - and it's been more than 10 days since its disappearance. In a world where nearly anything is easily located by GPS on something as common as our cell phones, an enormous plane equipped with considerable navigation and GPS capabilities has mysteriously gone missing, with nearly no trace of where it disappeared to. On several occasions in the nearly two weeks since the plane's disappearance, satellite images have been taken showing airplane-sized debris in the ocean thought to be the missing plane. These images have surely brought hope in finding the plane, but have offered no avail in actually doing so, with ocean currents making it difficult to maintain visual on the so-call ocean debris, and with search teams being limited in their search by frequent refueling due to the search area's distance from mainland. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said on Saturday that wooden pallets and "strapping belts" (seat belts) had been found by searchers, which is, according to John Young, an AMSA official, "a possible lead ... but pallets are used in the shipping industry as well," he said Sunday. Authorities have said random debris is often found in the ocean."
It's pretty crazy to me to think that this plane STILL has yet to be found. Then again, it also seems to show how fragile our world really is, and how little control we actually have over it. Though humanity has made amazing leaps in technology, mother nature still has dominance over us. I think the incorrect assumption that people have these days is that because this is the modern age, there is an answer to everything and that, to an extent, bad things can't happen (in this case that "bad thing" is a huge plane going missing).
