Felicia Padilla 5th period "Obama has 4 days to stop Putin"
So far the short-term measures that have been taken, including asset freezes and visa bans for Russian government officials and business leaders, will not be enough to put enough pressure on Putin and his friends. So far we think these measures could be a drag on the Russian economy over time as well as an embarrassment for the Russian government, but would only be an “inconvenience” for the Russian economy in the near term. Some more drastic measures would include going after their Russia’s ability to interact in the global financial markets. which Many people think this would be “catastrophic.” 95.5 % of voters voted to leave the Ukraine and join Russia. Obama reiterated to Putin that this vote would never be acknowledged by the United States. He also says it is a violation of the Ukrainian constitution.
This is a very touchy subject. It is also a subject that I am very unfamiliar with. So far, I do think the United States should be involved with the issue, I am just not sure exactly how far we should dig our noses into outer peoples' business. This will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

It just sounds like Cold War stuff all over again. Russia makes a grab, we say 'no', they keep going, etc. Let's hope this doesn't escalate.
ReplyDeleteYes i agree, tensions have not calmed between Russia and the US it seems. We just need to remember that if there is to ever be a war that Russia's winters are incredible dangerous
