Earthquake in Los Angeles By: Taylor Grant-Gates

This morning at 6:45 AM a 4.4-magnitude earthquake shook through the spine of the Los Angeles area. The earthquake happened in the early morning hours before most people had gotten up for work and school. A Man that was stopped by the CNN staff stated that when the earthquake happened he ''sort of sat up in bed, waited a second, then put my head down for a little bit. I wasn't really afraid.'' The USGS( U.S. Geological Survey) stated that there was 'strong to moderate' shaking near the epicenter, the further you got away the more you just felt a jolt of some sort. Geophysicist Paul Caruso stated that '' significant damage or casualties generally wouldn't be expected from earthquakes weaker than 5.5-magnitude, although results vary from region to region.'' Six aftershocks followed the Earthquake this morning with the strongest having a magnitude of 2.7.

I am happy that there was no one seriously hurt (that we know of) during this earthquake. California is known for their earthquakes, but this one wasn't as strong as many others have been in the past. I just hope that everyone takes the necessary precautions that they need to take in order to stay safe.
