Summary: A Chicago teen, Kenneka Jenkins, went missing on one Saturday afternoon and was later found dead in a hotel freezer Sunday morning. Police are still investigating the cause of her death, but their current standing on the situation is causing an uproar on social media. The police have said that she drunkenly wandered into the freezer and locked herself in. People on twitter have already lashed out saying that her mother deserves more closure to her daughters sudden death. Further investigation is currently underway.

Analysis: It's crazy how so many young adults are jeopardized in public space. Especially teen girls, we are prone to abduction and so many other horrible things that it's almost becoming scary to go out alone. I find it awful that this is what I fear the most when there are so many more important things to be feared. I've always been taught to never go out alone (just in case), but I want to be able to go places without the fear of being abducted and ending up dead in a hotel freezer.

  1. I know. There have been so many cases where young women are taken advantage of it public areas. My parents won;t let me go anywhere without someone else with me.

  2. do you think tighter restrictions need to be put on underage drinking? Do you think the current fines and laws are strong enough to scare teens out of drinking?

  3. Being and drunken girl teen in that situation makes her very vulnerable. It is so easy for someone to take advantage of a person like her in that state of mind. I think there should be tighter restrictions on underage drinking because of these awful things that are happening to underage teens today.

  4. I find it very hard to believe that this girl locked herself in the freezer to rot, even if she was drunk. It's a shame that this poor teen is being blamed for her death when this could have been someone else's deed. I agree with you that many teens are jeopardized in public spaces; she could have easily (like you said) have been abducted or purposefully been put in a situation like this. Hearing these things on the news scare me as well because it's usually young girls who are targeted.

This a truly devastating situation. I too am often concerned about my safety and others. I'm shocked about the lack of details the authorities are able to offer at the moment. I find it hard to believe that she locked herself in a freezer, even in a drunken state. Many young teens, especially girls, are taken advantage of. It's truly frightening to see. Hopefully, further medical examinations will be able to determine the true cause of death. It's particularly difficult to investigate a case with such little evidence of a motive, cause of death, and of moments before the devastation. I truly hope they find the assailant, if applicable, and that this young girl's family receives closure after such a traumatic loss.

  6. How intoxicated do you have to be to lock yourself in a freezer? I find it highly unlikely that she was solely responsible for her own death. I hope police are actively investigating to see if there was someone else involved in this girl's death. Events like this happen far too often and we need to raise awareness about them so that teens (and especially females) are less threatened in public spaces.
