Earlier this year, I wrote a blog post about the former police officer, Amber Guyger, who shot and killed a man in his own apartment. This past Friday, she was charged with his murder, and she is now facing up to life in prison if she’s convicted. She is only the second Dallas police officer to be indicted for murder in 45 years. I think that definitely says something about our justice system.
Many consider things like police brutality the “new Jim Crow” because many police officers and other white people can abuse or even kill black people without facing adequate consequences. We have heard about countless black men (and women) killed by white people or white cops not getting justice. Although this may seem like a current issue to some because it’s only finally getting coverage, it’s an issue that’s been around forever. Hopefully, Guyger’s indictment is a step in the right directions towards ending it.
Emma Burkey: This issue has defiantly not been covered enough until recently and unfortunately similar instances of obvious racism keep occurring and nothing has been changed. The fact that most blacks must live on edge everyday for fear of being shot or treated unjustly is reason enough for action to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect this issue to pop up again, thank you for sharing! I'm glad this man and his family and his friends are getting their justice they deserve.
