A southwestern state, Texas, is facing a feral hog apocalypse that threatens agriculture. Texas is being overrun by 2.5 million wild hogs that cause at least $50 million a year on damage to agriculture. The hogs also destroy lawns, flower beds, vegetable gardens, livestock tanks and even internet, television, and phone cables. Not even the killing of 750,000 wild pigs by hunters each year has been able to control the problem. The hogs were brought to Texas centuries ago by Spanish Pioneers who turned them loose to ensure food supply. The best solution to get rid of the hog invasion is a poison called Kaput Feral Hog Lure The poison has a substance called warfarin, which acts as a blood thinner in humans. But it kills pigs. The killing of these pigs has recently been called the "Pig Apocolypse".
This was posted on March 3rd, 2017 showing that this is an existing problem today. Prior to reading this article I had never heard of this hog problem. I understand that all of these pigs are causing problems, but I just wish there was something we could do besides kill them. This article was written to inform people that they arent just killing these animals for no reason, there are so many of them and they are causing harm to our enviroment. This relates back to history when the Spanish first brought all of the pigs here for their own good, if they never did that this situation could have gone many different ways.
