Audrey Griffin "These moms are making tiny hijabs for their kids' dolls"

These moms are making tiny hijabs for their kids' dolls

Summary

A mother is making a collection of dolls for her daughter as diverse as the world around her is. Grace has dolls of a wide range of ethnicities and dolls with glasses and in wheel chairs. However, her mother noticed she didn't have any Muslim dolls. She asked her Muslim friend if her daughter had and hijab-wearing dolls, and she said she didn't, but loved the idea. Now the two moms are working with artists and designers to sell these dolls to any parent who wants to teach their children acceptance of diversity.

Analysis

I think this story is really awesome. I feel like people are really making advances in raising their children to be more tolerant of other people. There are so many misconceptions about Muslims that aren't based in any sort of fact, but are instead rooted in the cruel media portrayal of non-Christian people and the fact that many Americans have never had a real human-to-human interaction with a Muslim person. Doing small things like buying your child a doll wearing a hijab does a lot to teach children acceptance at a young age.
