David Rockefeller, the grandson of John D. Rockefeller, recently died at the age of 101. He was the last living from that generation to have their family's money concentrated in only a few hands. He is said to have about 3 billion dollars, and that is why he was a practicing philanthropist. His other siblings did not practice philanthropy as openly as David did; he was known for traveling the world and giving back to many charities. His legacy and family name will live on through his kids.
David Rockefeller was a descendant to the man who owned a huge monopoly on the oil industry during the Gilded Age. In being this, it shows how one family can monopolize one hundred years ago and keep their reputation and name. Companies can stay around for centuries by just being passed down through the family. This example is the Standard Oil Company though the Rockefeller's. John D. monopolized when he could and carved his family's name and philanthropy ways.
