Summary:
Protests over the controversial pipeline escalated over the weekend after the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe says construction workers "bulldozed" sacred land. There may be a looming showdown in the coming days in the already contentious demonstrations in North Dakota against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Local Authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation order for the site near th Standing Rocks Sioux Tribe's reservation where hundreds of activists are camping out in protest of the controversial cruse oil pipeline. Those who have not cleared out by Monday could be arrested, authorities said. Authorities said they issued this evacuation order as a safeguard against the winter conditions.
Meanwhile, a military Veterans group announced that at least 2,000 vets would deploy to the area on Sunday to defend the demonstrators if local authorities move in to clear out the camp this weekend. In addition, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights told ABC News on Friday that it would send commissioners to North Dakota because of the commissions civil rights concerns.
Analysis:
This article was written by Catherine Thorbecke. I have no prior knowledge of this author before reading this article on December 3, 2016. The authors point of view is relative to the safety and Civil Rights of the protesters. This article was not written in North Dakota. It could only affect the article because she is not in North Dakota, she may or may not know the weather conditions.
This article was written for those keeping up with the protest of the North Dakota pipeline. This article is important because the pipeline would run directly through sacred Indian territory/reservation. This current event is important to U.S. History because it is not the first time an Indian Reservation has been overtaken with no regards to their rights, rituals and feelings.

I mean vets are no stranger to fighting about oil...
ReplyDeleteIm looking at you Dubya. You really screwed us up for a while.
I seriously don't like the oil pipelines trying to take the Point A point B straight line approach on this. They can take a detour if they have to.
I'm so glad to hear about this, thank you for writing about this
