Sunflower seeds recalled -Avery Yoss 4th
Right now, items containing sunflower seeds made by the brand "SunOpta" have had a temporary recall in 24 states because there are concerns that they could possibly have listeria. Papa Johns pizza is a famous food company that used "SunOpta" in their food, mostly on their salads. Every item containing this brand was thrown away and is temporarily recalled, who knows if it will even be brought back. Listeria can cause serious infections.
This is kind of scary, especially since most of the time we don't know all the ingredients that are involved in the food we eat, and any of them could be recalled at any second. This could be synthesized to the meat inspection act.

This is very scary. I wonder if it will be as big of an issue as the Blue Bell incident was. I hope Papa Johns does not have to suffer too much from this set back, or lose that much business.

I think that food safety standards are more important than ever because of new food manufacturing processes. They are basically untested and we have no idea how they can affect the quality of our food. Additionally, we automatically trust that the food we eat is safe, so we are very susceptible to illnesses passed through it.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how a small food scare can destroy a company's reputation.
