Senate Bill Calls for Women to Register for Draft by Caroline North 9th period

Congress is one step closer to requiring women alongside men to register for a military draft.  This was approved last Thursday by the Senate Armed Services Committee and calls for women to sign up with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday starting in January of 2018.

Closing the gender inequality gap is a remarkable advancement in our country.  However, this bill has provided much controversy.  Obviously the bill isn't popular with all parties because many women don't want to be required to go to war.  The United States hasn't issued a draft since the Vietnam War, and the last time before that was WWII.  The idea of a draft is terrifying, and has spurred controversy and unrest for many American families.
