Donald Trump is at it again, this time calling for a ban on all Muslims entering the US. And he's not just talking about immigrants or refugees. He's talking about even tourists. Every Muslim, he says, should not be allowed to enter the US until the government can figure out what is going on, because the risk is too great. Obviously, this declaration was met with much heat, from the general populace, the other presidential candidates, and the Obama administration, who said that Trump's plan is a huge infringement on the freedom of religion. The other GOP candidates condemned Trump's actions and said that Trump is overreacting, and that hatred is not the answer. The Democrats took full opportunity of Trump's offensiveness and slammed him, calling him a fascist among other things.
This is despicable. It's hard enough to imagine how any one man could be so hateful, but harder still when you see how many people support and applaud his actions. His "plan" reminds me of the activists in US history who were against immigrants. In a book I read for English last year, the 13 American Arguments, the author says that there is a trend throughout American history that whenever the influx of immigrants reaches a certain point, it causes a backlash by many against immigrants, probably what happened with the nativists because of all the German and Irish immigrants, and what could be happening now.
