San Bernardino Shooting Hero // Olivia Gillis P3

On Wednesday in San Bernardino, California, a massacre took place at a county health department holiday party at the Inland Regional Center. "I got you." were the last words of Shannon Johnson as he shielded Denise Peraza with his body during the party. Johnson was one of 14 killed, while Peraza was one of 21 who were wounded. After the shooting, she said that she couldn't remember much, but she did recall Johnson saving her life.
The two had worked together for years and Peraza said Johnson had always been a selfless person who was always willing to put others before himself. Johnson's act of selflessness also didn't surprise his girlfriend of 3 years who said, "He was not afraid to die." Although, this entire situation is very tragic, I think it's good that the media is putting a lot of focus on Johnson's act of kindness. It's important that amongst all the tragedies happening everyday, everyone is reminded that there are lots of good people in the world like Shannon Johnson and that good deeds never go unnoticed.
