Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced on Thursday that the U.S. military will let women serve in all combat roles."As long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before," Carter told a Pentagon news conference."They'll be allowed to drive tanks, fire mortars, and lead infantry soldiers into combat. They'll be able to serve as Army Rangers and Green Berets, Navy SEALS, Marine Corps infantry, Air Force parajumpers and everything else that was previously open only to men," he said. President Barack Obama called this "a historic step forward" and it will "make our military even stronger."
This is a huge step for women. Women will get to experience all the opportunities men had to the right to experience previously. This can relate back to 1920, when the 19th amendment was ratified and women were finally granted the right to vote. This new opportunity granted by the U.S. military was another step that benefited the female gender as a whole.

I think that if a women meets the requirements that they should be aloud to serve. I agree with Obama, I think this is "a historic step forward."
ReplyDeleteThis is such a huge step! I agree with Madelynn, as long as any woman they enlist can do the job then it should not matter what the gender.
ReplyDeleteThis news makes me very happy. Hopefully, this will inspire more change in the military and change the attitude towards women.
