Combat Positions Are Now Open To Women In U.S. Army - Olivia Browne Period 6

All U.S. military combat positions are being opened up to women, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Thursday. The decision allows women to fill about 220,000 jobs that are now limited to men including infantry, armor, reconnaissance and some special operations units. Meaning that as long as they qualify and meet the standards, any woman will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before. They'll be able to drive tanks, give orders, lead infantry soldiers into combat.

Analysis: The Author is Eric Bradner and he appears to be a non-bias party. This article was created on December 4th, right after the announcement had taken place, adding to the excitement of the news. I had no prior knowledge of this event. The Audience is the American public and this story has a positive effect on them. The reason for writing this article was to educate the American public on a liberating and groundbreaking event. This directly relates to the women's fight for voting rights in the early 1900's, looking for equality with men.

  1. I think this is totally cool. I mean if the women qualify and want to have these leading positions, why should they be denied purely based on their gender?
