With both American and Russian military pilots deployed around and in Syria, there's bound to be some tension. Russian planes have been reported to be flying closer and closer to American pilots, with no warning or communication. Although American fliers have been ordered to NOT react to any of these incidents, as there seems to be no hostile intent, but with Iranian soldiers on the ground as well, thought to be supporting the Russians, caution is necessary.
Due to a long history of conflict with Russia, and more recent conflicts in the Middle East, American pilots can't be too careful. Suspicion has definitely been risen with the lack of air way etiquette on the Russian's side, and the supposed alliance of the Iranians with the Russians, but the last thing we want is another conflict.

ReplyDeleteRussians seem to have a very sketchy history with aircraft, especially after the Malaysia Airlines flight disappeared after passing over Russian territory. I believe American pilots are told not to react because it seems Russians are trying to begin a conflict and are trying to get the U.S. to start it. We need to raise the monitoring of Russian flight.
