Victoria Rhodes 5th. Egyptian security forces accidentally kill tourists

An Egyptian army aircraft accidentally bombs a convoy of mostly Mexican tourists and while some of the group tried to flee, additional forces on the ground fired at them. the survivors say their group was bombed by a plane flying overhead. in total 8 Mexicans and 4 Egyptians were killed, and 8 Mexicans and 2 Egyptians were wounded. the Mexican government has ordered that the Egyptians conduct a thorough investigation. Mexico's Ambassador, Jorge Alvarez, visited a hospital and quoted that the 4x4 had  been attacked by the plane while they stopped for a break in the dessert. the egyptian tourism make the comment that it was the guide's fault for taking the tourists to that point without a pass. a force had been chasing militants in the country's vast dessert when it mistook the tourists for militants. they deny this statement stating that the vehicles strongly resemble  those of the militants that they had been pursuing.

in my opinion it's impossible for the group to have been mistaken for militants since they were dining so that automatically made the Mexican government very suspicious, but the Egyptian government assured them that the case was being take very seriously. on the trail there was no warning signs that the ground was restricted which allowed the group to think they were perfectly safe. i believe that before a shooting or a bombing like that is made that they should know for sure who they are shooting. this group was an innocent tourist bus mistaken for aggressive militants which resulted in the life of several. the Egyptians government should definitely find out why their defensive forces thought it was best to bomb without being sure because  the  trust of Mexicans is now probably completely gone.

Today we face the issue of shooting before looking. granted that sometimes under immediate threats theres not really much one can do but to skip to self defense. though the plane was not under any threat and they had the full advantage and without being 100 percent sure they shot the tourist bus.

  1. That's really scary. Imagine being a group of tourists and then all of a sudden BOOM you just got attacked. It is very suspicious bt they're just going to have to take Egypt's word for it.

  2. This was a very tragic event. I wouldn't blame Mexico for questioning Egypt's full precautions and/ or intentions. This does seem like a very unlikely situation, for a military to make a mistake like this. At least Mexico and Egypt are looking into the situation very seriously. - Lia K. 6th
