Man killed by officer had pellet gun

August 27th, a police officer killed a suspect holding a realistic weapon near Fair Park.  The suspect, Bertrand Davis, threatened people with a gun while trying to purchase drugs.  It is assumed that he also set a house on fire a few blocks down when getting in a fight with another man.  That man called the police and reported a robbery.  The police then arrived to the suspect running out from the burning house to his wife in the car.  The police tried to arrest him, but he was not corroborating.  Then Matthew Terry, a veteran police officer, shot and killed Davis.  The chief claimed that Terry had no intention in shooting, but he had no choice.
I believe that this main cause was from his drug use.  I think that our society needs to educate students, beginning at a young age, on the negative impacts of drugs.  Drugs can ruin a persons life in a short period of time.  It can lead you to perform things that you would never do under normal conditions.  I think that we should have more support groups that help people with their addiction, and can hopefully prevent events like this.

  1. I agree with you. Kids need more education about the negative effects of drugs. I am glad that in the world we live in, we are more educated about how bad drugs are as opposed to how little people used to hear about it in school. People should do way more to help the many drug addicts we have today.

  2. This is crazy! I think that it does seem like he was probably Intoxicated with some substance because he was acting irrationally. This is a good example of how drugs are not only abusive to the body, but they are dangerous to everyone around you. When you're not in control, you're unfairly putting innocent people around you in danger.
