KILLER CUCUMBERS by Julia Woltjen (3rd period)

SUMMARY:

An outbreak of Salmonella is happening all across the southern US, the cause is... Cucumbers. That's right, cucumbers are the cause of this outbreak that has taken the one person's life in California. Luckily those naughty cucumbers have been recalled and the source is known to be in Mexico. Authorities are saying that this outbreak is very similar to the normal strain and that as usual the elderly and young children should be very cautious because this infection affects them and their weak immune systems the most.

ANALYSIS:

This is such a sad and easily avoidable problem in our society today. I hope that one day we could just check the produce and other common carriers of salmonella before they are put on the shelves. By doing this many people would be saved the hassle of this sickness or even their lives. Overall this should be an easy and avoidable ailment.

  2. Wow this is pretty sad! I agree with you when you say this problem is easily avoidable. Salmonella can be a very dangerous sickness and as you said it can lead to death. If people were more careful, I'm sure we could avoid this.

  3. These companies should create a machine that thoroughly scans produce and other foods to prevent this gross epidemic!! I love cucumbers but I don't love salmonella!
