Scientists did a study on zebra finch birds to determine if love has an affect on the reproductive success. They started off by putting an even number of female and male finches in a room and letting them pair up because females are attracted to a certain type of bird. Then they separated half of the pairs and put then with a random mate. Then they collected data on how much all of the birds reproduced. Of course, the zebra finches who were in an arranged pair had less offspring even though the male gave the female the same amount of attention he would give to a chosen mate. Scientists think the results turned out this way because they were "emotionally heart broken from losing their mate" or weren't with "someone they found very attractive." (mostly the female preferences) Within this arranged couple they even showed less attention to their newly hatched eggs.
I personally do believe love has an affect on how much these birds reproduce. If we were separated from our "soul mate" to be put in an arranged marriage, I highly doubt we would have a lot of children by them either. This shows love is important and has a large effect on the birds lives and even ours too.

kenley turner- This is weird, how do we even know that birds are capable of love? Isnt this more of an expiriment of lust?
ReplyDeleteI think love exists in all living things. A bird can love another bird just like we can love another human.
ReplyDeleteI think that love is a very powerful force throughout living things. This also explains why couples that are deeply in love have so many children. This is a very sweet article in a mob of very sad ones. -Heather Hatch 8th period.
