tw: domistic abuse
When the video of Ray Rice beating his then fiancee, now wife, was leaked many questions were asked. Most of them involving something along the lines of "why didn't she just leave" " why did she marry him" "why did she stay", blaming the victim of an abusive relationship. That's when the tweets started coming in. Women who have been or are victims of domestic abuse went to twitter and told the world why they stayed in a relationship that was so toxic to them. It was a hashtag that gave victims the power to speak out and tell the world that it wasn't them that was in the wrong. it raised awareness in a problem that unfortunately often goes unnoticed.
Until everybody realizes that it is never the victims fault nothing will ever change. Society needs to stop asking " why did she stay?" to "why did he abuse her?"

This is so sad! I wish things like this didn't happen. I cant believe this goes on all over the world today and it is out of peoples control sometimes. The common feeling from women is FEAR. I hope that one day things can get stricter on these types of incidents.
ReplyDeleteI am glad the victims got a chance to share what they felt. This really shows us that society usually only sees the stories from one side. But overall the situation is so sad, how they have to go through all of that and had to tell themselves those things to get them through the situation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a powerful thing to happen. It stuns me to think that this occurs almost daily for some people. It's sickening and terrifying. This gives them an outlet but I hope they do what's best for themselves.

Someone needs to stand up for these people who are beaning beat and the ones around them who are being affected as well. It is terrifying to think this could honestly happen to anyone, but at the some time we must all find the deepest strength in us to get up and pull away from the harm that surrounds us.
