US general Martin Dempsey warned that the U.S may need to deploy troops on the ground in Iraq to assist in fighting off ISIS. He also said that miliary teams had found 26 of 50 Iraqi brigades could not work correctly with the United States army. He stated that the other 24 would need additional training and weapons although they were led by capable commanders.
He told the senate that he could see in the forseeable future how the U.S could see it fit to once again have a large military pressence in Iraq. The U.S has been somewhat involved in iraq since we began airstrikes. The U.S has implored other countries to try and help defend the citizens of Iraq from ISIS. Around 30 countries pledged to contribute in some way. However the ways in which each country was going to contribute were not clearly outlined.
