Virus Hitting the Midwest - Corsica Steding

Enterovirus D68 has affected numerous children in the Midwest recently.  In fact, over 400 children were treated at one Kansas City hospital.  EV-D68 is a respiratory infection that resembles a common cold at first, but then develops and becomes a respiratory issue.  It's not the first time that this virus has made an appearance, either. It was originally identified in the 1960s.  However, there hasn't yet been an outbreak similar to the one that's occurring now.

Michael Martinez, John Newsome, and Elizabeth Cohen wrote this article for CNN on September 8th.  Before reading this article, I had heard of the spreading virus but wasn't aware of the details of the issue.  The article was written in order to inform people of the virus, and advise them on how to prevent getting it.  They recommend washing your hands frequently, staying home if you feel sick at all, etc.  I find it frightening that a virus like this could spread so quickly, and now that school has started it will be able to spread that much faster.
