Fareed Zakaria, one of CNN's journalists, a published author, and host for the show Fareed Zakaria GPS, explains in this editorial why we should carry out a more ambitious and aggressive attack on Iraq that what Obama has right now: nothing. He explains that it is necessary for the United States to take action because no other country, not even England or India, has the military capacity, money, weapons, and know-how like us, which is why we are almost obliged to help. Even though there is an extreme amount of pressure being put onto our political leaders to do something, Americans in general are a bit skeptical on sending troops back to Iraq, especially since we just brought them back home only a few years ago. Who's to say that this is just going to be a repeat of the Bush scenario back in 2003? Zakaria provides his solution to the whole crisis and why it would be the most effective.
This editorial was published about exactly one month ago from today, but it does not take away from the credibility and validity. Not only is the source reliable, the information makes sense as well. One could argue that because Zakaria is a part of CNN, a government based news station, he would be "pro-Iraq" or for going to war with the region in Southwest Asia. This is the opposite and as you can tell from reading this, he is very objective to both sides and carefully considers all the pros and cons to this ever so delicate situation we have at hand. In a problem where every answer seems like the wrong one, Zakaria provides a thoroughly thought out solution that, depending on the way you look at it, might expose some light at the end of this what seems like infinite dark tunnel.
