706 infants and 43 workers have been exposed to TB, or
tuberculosis, within the last year in an El Paso hospital. An infected
healthcare worker had an active case of TB with in the last year, and had close
contact with infants. The hospital is contacting patients by phone and mail
regarding testing for TB, ensuring that they will pay for any follow up
treatments. The Texas Department of State Health Services launched an on-site
investigation, saying they "found serious deficiencies in the areas of
infection control, patient rights and governing body.” They are currently
working on preventing another serious issue like this from happening again.
I, for one, am not surprised, given that many bonehead
mistakes happen within hospitals. This is a potentially awful situation, given
that almost 700 infants have been exposed to this deadly virus. It could result
in very serious sickness, and possibly death for these infants. I’m glad that
they are working persistently to prevent another outbreak or mistake like this.

That's not good. I would've thought that hospitals would've had better hygiene.
