Laura Walton 4th Period---Clemson University asks students about sex lives
Clemson University is requiring students to reveal how many times they've had sex in the past month and with how many partners.
The University has required that all students take a mandatory online quiz that is SUPPOSED to provide insight to the University on ways to prevent sexual assault and substance abuse.
The questions are really "invasive" and "personal" about drinking habits and their sex life. An example is from a screenshot a student took of the test " “How many times have you had sex (including oral) in the last 3 months?”, “With how many different people have you had sex (including oral) in the last 3 months?”.
Another concern of students is privacy as the quiz claims its anonymous but requires housing information, emailID, first and last name. Its also set up on a third party website giving the information to that third party and the school.
Current Students are outraged and parents are slowly getting concerned a quote suggests "They’re upset. They’re paying this astronomical tuition to come here, and they’re talking to their parents about these questions, and their parents are getting upset about having to spend this kind of money at Clemson where their students are being asked these kinds of questions."

I personally feel that what makes college so appealing is the freedom that it offers its students. Once a college begins prying in private lives and asking personal questions its no longer acting in its place. I understand that college substance abuse and prevention of sexual assault is important but there must be another tactic to attempting to face it.

yeah i feel like this is an invasion of privacy and it seems almost like an infringement of their rights i would refuse to take it
ReplyDeleteAlthough the intentions are good, this does seem to be a bit over the line. If the test were truly anonymous, then why would the college be asking for the students' name and housing information? To me it honestly sounds like they are looking for a suspect on (a) previous attack/s.
ReplyDeletei feel like sex or their drinking habits aren't any of the university's concern. its an invasion of privacy and i feel like if one did have this problems its something they should deal with in on their own... and not get teachers or the school involve on something so personal. 4th period Sharon Cordon
